Since walgreens is my main source for my sinful colors nail polish I will sign up, sometimes they do have really great sales on makeup, maybe this will help to feed my habit!

ReplyDeleteA cashier was telling me about a program Walgreens offered, but I don't know if it's different. She said it was for prescriptions and it was $20 a year. I hope this is not that one, because it seems dumb that Walgreens doesn't have this type of program when every other retail chain has one.
ReplyDeleteThe program the cashier was telling you about is for people who don't have prescription drug coverage through their healthcare insurance plans. I believe there may be other drugstore chains that have something like this but I am not sure. Walgreens has a wonderful pharmacy program in general. This has nothing to do with the new "frequent buyer" card, which I am very glad they are finally doing!

ReplyDeleteEmployees can sign up as of Monday 08/13. You won't get anything until the actual new ad starts at the end of September (unless you're an employee...there will be ONE 500 point bonus given to you if you sign up and spend $5).
ReplyDeletePlease understand if you DON'T sign up, you will no longer be able to get sale prices. Period. Cashiers will not be allowed to scan a store card to get you the sale price. All Walgreens sale prices (and coupons) will now require signing up for the Balance Rewards program, so sign up as soon as you're able and save yourself the hassle!
It's actually a neat program, you will be earning bonus points on certain items you purchase (including prescriptions) and points can be redeemed for certain dollar off amounts once you hit a certain level.
Yes I already signed up for mine, and plan to spend $5 today to get my reward!

ReplyDeleteI am wondering if there will be limits on Register Reward Items with the cards like CVS and Rite Aid cards? I rarely shop Walgreens anymore but occasionally if there is something I really need I'll buy a few over the span of the week.
ReplyDeleteRight now they aren't planning on limiting/changing the RR program (it is a separate program entirely), but there will be limits on the Balance Rewards points earned and you can actually go into the negative on points if you do returns.
Delete@Melissa are they doing away with the Register Rewards? That was my understanding from reading another blog. They also said that if you use your points to purchase another item that produces points that you will not receive the points from that item. Is that true?
ReplyDeleteNo. At this time there is no plan to get rid of the Register Rewards, that is a separate program entirely. In my opinion, I believe that eventually they will be phased out if the Balance Rewards program seems to be working better, but right now that isn't planned at all.
DeleteThe second issue is correct. When redeeming your Balance Rewards points you will not earn any new points.
So the Balance points are separate from the Register Rewards.

Yes, it is Register Rewards and Balance Rewards are two different programs, you have 36 months to spend points as long as you are actively using the card once every 6 months.
DeleteOne thing I find really interesting is lets say you purchase Nail Polish A and it earns you 100 points. Your total accumulated points is now 5000 and you redeem your 5000 points for $5 off on the next purchase and your balance is 0. Next week you decide to return Nail Polish A, your Balance Rewards points will now be -100.
The card is replacing the Register Rewards.

DeleteI live in Manhattan and only have crappy drugstores near my apartment. Walgreens happens to be the nicest one, but it's also the most expensive. However they always get in the new cosmetics before anyone else does, and I'm a slave to the words "new" and "limited edition" so OF COURSE I'll be signing up!
